I write to oppose the Draft EIS for the Line 5/Embridge pipe replacement. Cutting a four-mile long swath to facilitate tunnel construction will do lasting damage to a beautiful part of northern Michigan, one finally recovering from the clear-cutting of the late nineteenth century. The proposed plan tracks perilously close to one of the region's premier gems - an International Dark Sky Park and all the recreational resources that Headlands offers. I implore the department to identify a less destructive way to build the pipeline, or preferably, just to close the pipeline altogether.

Please shut down line 5. We cannot risk having it now, and we can’t risk the future climate on fossil fuels.

Please reject Enbridge's tunnel Proposal. It's too risky for the environment.

NO TUNNEL AND NO LINE 5! Get this foreign polluter off if our land and out of our water! Enbridge has caused almost 200 environmental disasters on American land and they are endangering our largest freshwater source every minute of every day. They are destroying indigenous lands and have caused tremendous housing cost inflation in the area of the Mackinac Bridge, buying up the majority of available property and housing, pushing locals out. They've brought exactly zero jobs to our area because they're importing their own Canadian workers.
I live in Mackinaw City. I have been directly impacted by this for years. Those of us who live here, on either side of the bridge, are the only ones who should have a say on this, and we do not want this pipeline or a tunnel!
Please, we are literally begging, put a stop to this environmental disaster waiting to happen. Get this corrupt, polluting foreign company out of our state and country. There is no reason for us to risk our water and lands for the increased wealth of a foreign company that already has over $50 BILLION in yearly profit. Enbridge will reap all the profits and Michiganders and America will pay the price when they cause another disaster. That is a fact. They don't have anywhere near enough insurance coverage to clean up the inevitable spill that's coming if that pipeline isn't removed so it's us who will pay the ultimate price.
Do the right thing for Michiganders and all Americans and get Enbridge out of our state!

I do not support your pipeline nor the tunnel to enclose it. What are your plans if there is an oil leak? What will you do for us for the tribe for the citizens who live near the water for the people who rely on it for their economy? What will you do to fix it? How can you possibly fix it. Your oil doesn’t benefit us in any way. Keep it in Canada where it belongs. Get it all out of Michigan.

I am writing to express my opposition to the idea of a directional drilling tunnel for Line 5 under the Straits of Mackinac. Based on the geologic analysis I've seen regarding the previously proposed tunnel, I do no believe that this would be a substantially safer alternative. I am opposed to any scenario where Enbridge is allowed to continue piping oil and other fossil fuels under or across the Great Lakes due to unacceptable negative impacts on all of the above subjects. Please shut down Line 5.

Third submission due to 1000 word limitation
This crazy horizontal drilling idea, purportedly dreamed up based on technological advances in the last 6 months, has me questioning whether this pipeline is needed at all. Our country is moving away from fossil fuels whether oil barons and natural gas billionaires want to admit it or not, and science backs up the move. How long will there be a “need” for this fuel transport? Twenty years? Twenty five years? Maybe fifteen? Is it worth the risk to the area and the time and money spent for so little ROI? Are there other less invasive options? I don’t feel Enbridge has considered those.

Enbridge has proven they cannot drill in the Mackinac Straits safely. There is no reason to continue Line 5 operations. It is too risky and too much of a carbon bomb and mess that taxpayers will be stuck cleaning up. We do not need more development, we need more restoration and sustainable ecosystem work. Polluters must pay for their damages in full and prevented from contaminating 90% of North America's freshwater. Do not let Enbridge's greed destroying the Great Lakes be your great legacy. The only energy crisis we have is a lack of renewables. Shut down Line 5, it is costly, dangerous and completely unnecessary.
