I'm not going to copy and paste a form email or bullshit like that. All I can say is that residents of the Straits of Mackinac region don't want this fucking tunnel. I work and pay property taxes in Mackinac County, and have been a seasonal resident on Bois Blanc Island my entire life. The island is the only home I have, and its ecology would be completely decimated if construction of a tunnel went wrong, resulting in a rupture of the pipeline. The Straits of Mackinac is the most beautiful and ecologically diverse area I've ever seen, even after visiting many states. Not only is the environment beautiful, delicate, and unique - the socioeconomic effects of an oil spill would destroy the local economy, which depends on seasonal tourism. The seasonal economy allows me to work in the Straits of Mackinac area during the summer months, and the money I'm able to save while working as a bartender in the service industry allow me to survive financially during the school year, where I'm currently a PhD candidate in English Rhetoric and Writing at Virginia Tech. If there were an oil spill, it would ruin my financial wellbeing, leaving me no other choice but to drop out of my PhD program, which I've been working towards for eight years. Not only would it ruin my short-term financial wellbeing, it would ruin my long-term financial wellbeing, as the property on Bois Blanc Island is the only property I stand to inherit which would be worthless in the case of an oil spill (of which I already pay the taxes and maintenance for). I've had a bumper sticker on my car since I turned sixteen that reads "shut down line 5 pipeline". When I was a teenager, I was concerned about the natural ecology - the monarch butterflies, the does and their fawns, the grouse, even the endangered massassauga snakes on the island I loved so dearly. Now, as an adult, I can say that the financial loss I would experience if the straits were to be threatened terrifies me far more.

It is time to end Line 5 before it results in the world’s largest fresh water oil spill. It is time to create legislation to prohibit reckless usage of natural resources, such as the overconsumption of data center.
Thank you.

Our organization is focused on transitioning Leelanau County to a county whose energy is entirely produced from renewable energy sources. Solar and wind are the least expensive and most quickly operational new energy sources. The pipeline is unnecessary for propane customers in the upper peninsula, the Straits of Mackinac too vulnerable in terms of economic, environmental, and cultural impacts of a pipeline failure; the proposed tunnel is a ludicrous backward-thinking idea whose construction will be endless, expensive, and allow the aging pipeline to continue to operate for many more years. SHUT IT DOWN!

After listening to several different experts on the potential impacts of drilling in the Straits of Mackinac, I can only conclude that proponents of the tunnel and drilling plan seek financial gain that is overriding their common sense. I do not have an engineering degree, but I can understand a hydro-geologist's analysis, which points out the dangers of a methane explosion. If the drilling is allowed and the tunnel built, corporate greed will have won again. The track record of Enbridge alone should disallow their involvement - LINE 5 NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN111

I implore you to heed the commentary being offered by all of us concerned with closing down Line 5 permanently. I would hope by now the huge risks to the Great Lakes which provide the fresh drinking water for over 4 million people are abundantly clear. Please say no to any and all efforts to continue this travesty known as Line 5. Deny Enbridge permits!

Public opinion is against both line 5 and the building of a tunnel. This is a Canadian company supplying dirty oil to Canada which takes a short cut through Michigans. Both line 5 and the tunnel are incredibly risky. The Great Lakes hold 21% of the world’s freshwater. Please protect it!

For obvious reasons line 5 and Enbridge efforts to maintain this or alternatives are outdated . Let's stop this. Move into a non fossil fuel future.

HDD is just as bad for the Straits as a tunnel proposal!! This pipeline is outdated and needs to be rerouted or permanently shut down! Start in Canada go through Canada and end in Canada.!!

Line 5 should not be allowed. It will cause too much environmental damage.?
