In a 2018 report to the state of Michigan, Enbridge concluded that horizontal drilling was not a viable option for drilling through a 4-mile section of hard subsurface rock beneath the Straits.
STOP taking chances with our drinking water!
This whole project will end up a failure!
Also, the old pipe is a failure waiting to burst! SHUT it down now!

The Great Lakes are way too precious and fragile to risk having them ruined for a pipeline to transport oil. Think about the big picture, think about our future generations, do the right thing. Thanks!

Line 5 must be shut down for good. Dirty oil can no longer pass through line 5 threatening
Great Lakes waters. It is totally owned by a Canadian company Endbridge. It crosses northern US land to get to eastern Canada.
It was built in 1953! It is illegally operating as easements have ended but they continue to operate. Nuts! End Line 5.

I urge you to protect the straits of Mackinac. Enbridge’s proposal is far too risky and unsound.
The straits would be devastatingly impacted by the construction Enbridge proposes. And the potential for something to go wrong during or after construction is too great. The health of the straits ecosystems are far too important as drivers of tourism, fishing, and sources of drinking water to be compromised. Please protect this most precious place for future generations. Its not worth ruining for the sake of a Canadian oil company.

Any plan to run a pipeline across or under any Great Lake is not worth the risk. They can run the pipeline through Canada if they want to keep this low performing line operating.
I oppose the proposed alternative.

Line 5 needs to be shutdown- the only purpose is the greed of Enbridge as a corporation to make profit. There are other choices that can be done to move the oil that will destroy our water, our economy, our air our environment with this existing tunnel or anything that Enbridge presents to EGLE . Canadians do not want this to continue indigenous people do not want this, Americans do not want this. There are more options available to provide fossil fuel and the change to sustainable energy. No permits no support from we the people - only corporate greed and political ambition are the factors involved to promote this tunnel! It is 2025 not 1953. We can address this with the future of our states, our country, and our climate being the top priority. There are many many reasons to deny this tunnel and shut it down. The only reason to look at disrupting and creating disaster is money. I live on the coastline of Lake Michigan - the economy the pollution that can happen is disastrous to my life as one human being who loves and appreciates the rivers the tributaries and the wondrous lakes that exist in Michigan. I am not alone and those that come here from other states and reside here as well as Wisconsin will be affected detrimentally and the children and grandchildren that come from here will be impacted. It is we the people not corporations that understand the danger this creates. Corporations are business and profit not any caring for the future outside of their goal of profit. Enbridge will exist very well for their shareholders without line 5. We understand the horrific risks and we respect the treaties that were put in place . Does EGLE? Shutdown line 5!!

Preserving the high quality of water of the Great Lakes matters to so many people in 2 nations so that it is imperative to deny a pipeline under the water
The existing line should be removed.

I cannot believe that anyone in their right mind would allow a pipeline to cross the straits of Mackinac and then to propose a tunnel to do so as a solution to the 70 plus year old line. This is outrageous and irresponsible of anyone who approves it, unless they don't understand the implications of the impact of an oil spill, I will give them slack, but I encourage anyone who hasn't been near one, to investigate it. I was witness to the Enbridge oil spill on the Kalamazoo river in Michigan in 2010, just the smell alone would have you all protesting against such an event. As a grandfather, I think of my next generations who will be impacted by the decisions of those who would trade clean water/air/land for the money.

We should make a greater effort to use renewable energy and stop using fossil fuels! We CAN get off fossil fuels that harm the environment. The line 5 tunnel is a bad investment for energy and the environment.
